If you’ve had trouble getting rid of the fat under your chin, you’re not alone! Many clients at The Remedy Health + Wellness struggle with this issue and don’t know how to correct it. If you aren’t seeing the results you want from dieting and exercise, there may be another option that can help—Kybella. Kybella injections are an innovative approach to reducing stubborn fat deposits beneath the chin without surgery or downtime. One injection can help eliminate excess fat cells beneath your chin, resulting in a slimmer, younger-looking profile that lasts for years.
What is kybella?
Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment that helps reduce the appearance of fullness and moderate to severe fat below the chin, along the jawline, or under the lower lip. It’s the only FDA-approved injectable for treatment of submental fat (the type of fat under your chin). It’s injected into fat cells beneath your skin and breaks them down, so they can be naturally eliminated from your body. The amount of treatments needed will vary for each patient, but it’s typically about one per month for 1-2 years.
Kybella is made up of two active ingredients: deoxycholic acid (DCA) and sodium deoxycholate (NaDOC). DCA is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. This in turn causes natural fat elimination from the body.
What are the benefits of treatment?
First, it’s much less invasive than surgery and it doesn’t involve cutting into your skin and removing fat cells. Second, you can see visible results in as little as two weeks! Third, it’s an FDA-approved treatment for adults who have stubborn neck fat above the clavicle bone.
Many patients choose to undergo multiple rounds of Kybella treatments after their initial session, but this is not required. As soon as they’ve had one treatment they’ll start seeing some immediate changes, but with subsequent sessions they’ll experience even more dramatic improvements. For many people neck fat can be difficult to get rid of without surgical procedures because it usually stays hidden beneath the jawline and behind the neck muscles – however, Kybella treatments provide a solution that doesn’t involve going under the knife!
How long does it last?
Kybella has been available since April 2015. It does not dissolve fat cells permanently but rather shrinks them over time for up to a year. The average person loses about 25% of their fat cells after their first treatment and continues to lose more after subsequent treatments. The Remedy Health + Wellness patients have reported a decrease in fullness around their neck and jawline area within days of treatment, typically lasting 3 months to 1 year post-treatment.
Are there side effects?
The most common side effects after a Kybella treatment are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and lumps at the injection site. These are usually temporary and will go away within a few days. If these side effects persist or worsen during treatment, let your healthcare professional know right away. Other side effects may include headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms that can occur in some people following treatment, but are not common.
